Reno Solid Fence connects homeowners with independent fence contractors licensed in Nevada for repairs as well as new fences. After a windstorm or a hard winter, most fence damage around Reno comes down to a handful of failures, and most of them start at the posts.

Common repairs
Leaning or snapped posts
Wood posts rot at the soil line, especially where sprinklers keep that spot wet, and shallow posts get worked loose by wind and frost. The fix is a new post, set deeper, or a steel post or a post repair spike driven beside the old one. National guides put post replacement at roughly $120–$350 per post.
Wind-blown panels and boards
The Washoe Zephyr and winter storms pop pickets, split rails and push whole sections over. If the posts are sound, re-hanging rails and replacing boards is quick. If several posts in a row have moved, the line needs new posts first.
Sagging and dragging gates
A gate that drags usually means the hinge post has tipped or the frame has racked. A steel gate frame, an anti-sag kit or a new, deeper hinge post corrects it. See fence gates.
Cracked vinyl and bent chain link
Vinyl panels and rails are replaceable piece by piece; vinyl is more brittle below freezing, so winter impacts are a common cause. Chain-link top rail and fabric can be spliced or re-stretched, and bent line posts swapped.
Repair or replace?
| What you see | Usual first option |
|---|---|
| A few loose or broken boards, posts solid | Repair |
| One or two posts leaning or broken | Replace those posts |
| Many posts rotted at the soil line | Plan a replacement |
| Fence already at or past the end of its finish, boards splitting throughout | Replacement is often cheaper over time |
See fence replacement for what a full tear-out and rebuild involves.
Do repairs need a permit?
In unincorporated Washoe County you may replace up to 100 linear feet of fence boards on a damaged fence without a building permit, as long as it is similar fencing in exactly the same location. Inside the City of Reno, the city's standards require a permit to erect, alter or extend a fence; whether a like-for-like board repair needs one is a question for Reno's permit counter. In the Lake Tahoe Basin, TRPA treats repair or replacement of an existing fence outside stream environment zones as exempt.
What fence repair costs
National figures put the average fence repair at about $618 per job, with wood fence repairs typically $320–$760 (average about $510). A storm-damaged section with several posts costs more; a single gate adjustment costs less. A contractor who sees it can say whether repair is worth it.
