What changes the number in Reno

  • Post type. Galvanized steel posts with wood boards cost more upfront but do not rot at the soil line.
  • Post depth. Footings below Washoe County's 24-inch frost depth take more concrete and digging.
  • Digging conditions. Caliche or rock can slow every hole.
  • Wind exposure. Closer post spacing on an exposed lot means more posts per foot.
  • Finish. Stain or sealer applied by the contractor, or left for you to do.
  • Tear-out. Removing and hauling an old fence.
  • Fire-zone end panel. A noncombustible section within 5 feet of the house where Washoe County's WUI code applies.

Getting comparable quotes

Ask every contractor to quote the same length, height, species, post type and depth, rail count, gates and removal, so you compare like with like. Nevada caps the initial deposit on a residential contract at $1,000 or 10 percent, whichever is less, with a narrow bonded exception. For all materials, see the Reno fence cost guide; for build details, wood fence installation.

FAQ

Wood Fence Cost: Common Questions

How much is a 6-foot wood fence per foot?

National installed ranges run about $13–$45 per linear foot, with pressure-treated pine around $15–$30 and cedar around $25–$45.

Is cedar worth the extra cost?

Cedar resists rot and moves less as it dries, which helps in Reno's dry climate. Pressure-treated pine is cheaper and works well for posts and rails.

What is the labor cost per foot for a wood fence?

Guides rarely split labor and materials reliably. Ask contractors for an itemized quote if you want to see the split.
