Aluminum Fence Installation in Reno

Reno Solid Fence refers aluminum fence jobs to independent contractors licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board who serve Reno, Sparks and Carson City. Aluminum gives the look of an ornamental iron fence without rust, at a lower price, and it is noncombustible.

For a decorative front-yard fence or a pool enclosure, aluminum's light weight and rust resistance usually win. Where a fence must stop a determined push, hold a heavy driveway gate or be custom-fabricated, steel is the stronger material. See wrought iron fence.

Styles

  • Flat-top and spear-top picket panels in 3 to 6 ft heights.
  • Rackable panels that follow a slope instead of stepping, useful on foothill lots.
  • Horizontal slat panels for a modern privacy look that stays noncombustible.
  • Pool-code panels with picket spacing meant for barrier rules.

Pools and fire zones

Aluminum is one of the most common pool barrier materials. Washoe County pool barriers must be at least 48 inches tall, with no more than 2 inches of clearance at the bottom, and pedestrian gates that open away from the pool and are self-closing and self-latching. Barriers always need a permit and must pass inspection before the pool is filled. See pool fences.

Because aluminum is noncombustible, it also suits the 5-foot zone next to a house, where Washoe County's wildland-urban interface code requires fences to be noncombustible or as fire-resistive as the exterior walls. A wood backyard fence that ends in an aluminum panel and gate at the house meets that intent.

Front yards and heights

Inside Reno city limits, 4 feet is the maximum in the required front yard, and a permit is required for fence construction. Sparks allows 4 feet in a front setback only when the fence is at least 50 percent open, which an aluminum picket fence is. Unincorporated Washoe County allows 4½ feet in the front setback.

FAQ

Aluminum Fences: Common Questions

Is aluminum strong enough for Reno wind?

Open picket aluminum lets wind pass, so wind load is low. Solid aluminum slat panels need closer post spacing, like any privacy fence.

Is aluminum cheaper than wrought iron?

Usually. National ranges run about $25–$50 per linear foot for aluminum versus about $30 to more than $100 for ornamental steel.

Can aluminum be a pool fence?

Yes, when the panels, height, bottom gap and gates meet the barrier rules. In Washoe County a pool barrier always needs a permit.
