Reno Solid Fence refers Carson City fence projects to independent fence contractors licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board. The state capital is about 30 miles south of Reno and runs its own planning and building departments, so neither Reno's nor Washoe County's fence rules apply here.

One government for city and county
On April 1, 1969, Ormsby County and Carson City merged into the Consolidated Municipality of Carson City, so one Board of Supervisors and one set of departments cover everything from downtown to the Lake Tahoe shoreline. The 2020 census counted 58,639 residents, most of them in Eagle Valley on the eastern edge of the Carson Range, at about 4,802 feet. The city limits climb to 9,214 feet at Snow Valley Peak.
The city grew from Eagle Station, a California Trail trading post on the Carson River that Abraham Curry bought in 1858 and laid out as a future capital, and it was a hub of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad until the tracks came out in 1950. Mills Park, the largest of its parks at 51 acres, sits near the middle of the valley.
Fence rules to confirm
We could not verify Carson City's fence standards from a primary source in this research pass, so treat these as questions for Carson City Planning and Building: secondary sources describe a front-yard limit of about 4 feet, a lower limit near intersections for visibility, no building permit for most fences of 6 feet or less, and extra review for anything taller. Ask the city before you buy materials, and ask whether your street sits inside one of the city's historic districts, where exterior changes can need design review.
Climate and site
Carson City averages about 14 inches of snow a year, less than Reno's valley floor, but it shares the region's wind. Washoe Valley, just north, is known for winds that close the freeway to high-profile vehicles, and Eagle Valley sits in the same lee of the Sierra. Solid privacy fences and block walls need posts and footings designed for wind, set below the frost line.
Lots along the Carson River or on the foothill edges can add floodplain and wildfire questions. Ask the contractor whether your lot is in a mapped flood zone before building across a drainage, and use noncombustible material where a fence meets the house on a brush-edge lot.
